Snowboard stability and security device

Mode Ideas has received support from Commercialisation Australia to commercialise its stability and security system for snowboards (pictured below).  Mode Ideas’ Zachary Goss said the device is intended to assist beginners to get up and going quicker, without the need to continually sit in the snow to do up their snowboard bindings.  Less time sitting in the snow and more time actually on the snow! The secondary aspect of the device is that it acts as a built in security system. The device is designed to be engaged and locked when left unattended and the only way to use the snowboard again is to unlock the device. The perfect anti-theft deterrent. What is the point of stealing something you can’t use?

“There is very little available to assist beginners who make up the majority of the snowsport market. Whilst everyone seems happy to give snowboarding a go once, statistics seem to indicate that many people don’t go back again. It is Mode Ideas’ aim is to make the learning experience more enjoyable and, hopefully, encourage people to continue with the sport," said Mr Goss.

"The fact that the device also acts as a built in theft deterrent when locked is also a great bonus! Most beginners hire snowboards from on piste hire companies, none of which have any built in security devices. With Mode Ideas’ device, hire companies can rest a little bit easier knowing that unaccompanied boards are now not easy prey for thieves!

“The snowboard market is continually evolving and one of the fastest growing snowsports.  This market is largely dominated by two or three leading manufacturers based in North America and Europe. This fact, combined with the snowboard market having a very high level of brand consciousness, makes it one of the hardest markets to break into. The funding provided will significantly assist Mode Ideas to move forward at a rapid pace and establish itself within the industry.

“The funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable Mode Ideas to conduct market research, undertake a risk analysis, establish an intellectual property strategy, develop a business plan and potentially establish a linkage/partnership with a snowboard manufacturer (not an easy feat when the majority are located in North America!).”
