Dr Susan Pond AM FTSE has a distinguished record in medicine, science and business. Most recently, Dr Pond was a senior executive with Johnson & Johnson, serving as Director of Pharmaceutical Research for six years and Managing Director for the next six years until March 2009 of its Sydney-based biotechnology company, Johnson & Johnson Research Pty Limited. From 2004-2008, Dr Pond was Director and, from 2007, Chairman of AusBiotech Limited.
Before joining Johnson & Johnson, Dr Pond held senior Professorial positions at the University of California San Francisco and then the University of Queensland. She has served on a number of Australian Government Advisory Boards, including as Chairman of the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee.
Dr Pond was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1994 and awarded a Wellcome Australia Medal in 1994 and a Centenary Medal in 2000.
Dr Pond holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of Sydney, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of New South Wales and a Doctor of Science degree and Doctor of Medicine honoris causa from the University of Queensland. Her publication and patent filing record is extensive. She holds an Adjunct Professorial appointment at the University of Sydney.
Dr Pond currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology and the Board of Trustees of Australia’s Virtual Herbarium.
